Project description
The project responds to an actual need to approve and implement the National Strategy for Adaptation to Climate Change in the Czech Republic by raising awareness of general public and preparedness of public administration to implement meaningful adaptation measures.
This project pays a specific attention to development of communication tools. The resulting communication campaign will consider barriers to implement adaptive measures and programs. The project therefore includes activities which will lead to raising awareness and information sharing, such as maintenance of central web interface, collection and dissemination of examples of good practices in similar regions, award of the best adaptation measures of the year, organisation of regional round-tables to discuss adaptation options, or development and distribution of videos. These activities are supplemented by empirical research on attitudes and preferences of population for adaptive measures and programs, aiming to provide recommendations for effective communication.
The project further responds to the lack of information for planning and subsequent implementation of adaptation measures in the Czech regions, which are planned to follow the National Strategy in 2016. To raise awareness and improve preparedness of public administration, a set of indicators of environmental vulnerability will be developed and acceptability of different types of adaptation measures among public will be examined. A guideline to prepare regional adaptation strategies will be proposed.
Due to the complexity of the issue, the project is jointly implemented by two universities, Masaryk University specializing in environmentally-sociological research, and Charles University – Environment Centre, which specializes in indicators and analysis of attitudes and preferences. The two universities are supplemented by Integra Consulting as an expert in guideline development, and by two non-governmental organizations Green Circle and Centre for Transport and Energy, which have an extensive experience in information campaigns.
